Business interruption report for waste processing plant
Appointment Type: Other
Service Area: Loss of Profits
Industry: Construction and Engineering
Instructed in an informal capacity, we were asked to provide a business interruption report for a large waste processing plant that had a catastrophic fire to one of its many sites.
This was a particularly complex case in that the company had various sites across the UK in which waste was treated at one site and then transferred to another to be disposed of.
We assessed the company’s loss of profits based on a “global” consideration of the whole business, rather than considering how that one site had been affected. Our audit and accounts team were involved in this work and their knowledge and expertise of Sage software was used to our client’s advantage.
Whilst the insurance company initially rejected this global approach, we were able to demonstrate through detailed sales walk throughs and system reports that the various sites are so interlinked it would not have been viable, or fair, to consider the fire affected site in isolation.
We were instructed with the aim of avoiding formal litigation or mediation, and our client has been able to successfully reach a settlement with their insurer.
