CASE STUDY

Casino gambling
Confiscation Order

The Defendant claimed that the money he had used to acquire various properties, redevelop and sell them came from the proceeds of his gambling at three casinos. NIFA expert was asked to establishe whether the Defendant's claim that the proceeds from his gambling originated from one relatively small initial sum. NIA expert examined the records from the casinos and found that the Defendant had placed bets of £1.5 million over a period of years but his winnings were only £0.5 million. "Where did the £1 million come from?" was a question the Defendant was left to ponder.
